Midsommar – Blu-ray Review

Midsommar is a 2019 mystery horror film that was written and directed by Ari Aster and starring Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, William Jackson Harper, Vilhelm Blomgren, and Will Poulter. It follows a group of friends who travel to Sweden for a festival that occurs once every ninety years and find themselves in the clutches of a pagan cult.


Hellbound: Hellraiser II – Blu-ray Review

Hellbound: Hellraiser II is a 1988 British-American horror film that was directed by Tony Randel and starring Clare Higgins, Ashley Laurence, Kenneth Cranham, and Doug Bradley.  The film is the second entry in the Hellraiser saga and draws heavily upon (and was made by much of the same cast and crew as) its precursor, Hellraiser.  Clive Barker, who wrote and directed the previous film, wrote the story and was the sequel’s executive producer.


Hellraiser – Blu-ray Review

Hellraiser is a 1987 British supernatural horror film that was written and directed by Clive Barker, and produced by Christopher Figg, based on Barker’s novella titled The Hellbound Heart.  The film marked Barker’s directorial debut.  The film also involves the resurrection of Frank (Sean Chapman), who had opened the door to an alternate dimension and had his body torn to pieces by creatures known as Cenobites.  Years later, Frank’s brother Larry moves into their late mother’s abandoned house with new wife Julia.  An accident causes some of Larry’s blood to spill on the attic floor, which triggers Frank’s resurrection.  To complete his resurrection, he requires more blood which Julia provides while Kristy Cotton, Larry’s daughter, discovers Frank’s puzzle box which leads her to meet with the Cenobites, led by Pinhead.


The Witches (1990) – Blu-ray Review

The Witches is a 1990 dark fantasy comedy film that was directed by Nicolas Roeg and stars Anjelica Huston, Mai Zetterling, Rowan Atkinson, and Jasen Fisher, and is based on the 1983 children’s novel of the same title by Roald Dahl.  As in the original novel, the story features evil witches who masquerade as ordinary women and kill children, and a boy and his grandmother need to find a way to foil and destroy them.


Yesterday – 4K UHD Review

Yesterday is a 2019 British romantic comedy film that was directed by Danny Boyle and written by Richard Curtis, based on the story by Jack Barth and Curtis.  It stars Himesh Patel as struggling musician Jack Malik, who, after an accident, finds himself the only person who remembers the Beatles and becomes famous after taking credit for their songs.  The film also stars Lily James as the protagonist’s childhood friend and love interest, Kate McKinnon as his manager, and Ed Sheehan as a fictionalized version of himself.
